MTNL and BSNL have opposed TRAI's recommendation to open up the last mile for private operators to provide broadband connectivity. The two PSUs claim they have been offering broadband services at a very low price and their services are available on demand in most of the places they operate in and hence they do not see the rationale for giving last mile connectivity to private operators.
